Welcome to the course MEDIASTINUM: ANATOMY, COMPARTMENTALIZATION AND DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSES of Atualiza24! 

Learning objectives: At the end of this course, participants will be able to :

1) Recognize the mediastinal and normal compartmental anatomy of the thymus;

2) to identify the patterns of lymph node involvement in neoplasms as well as in inflammatory and infectious etiologies;

3) evaluating and staging thymic neoplasms;

4) elaborate the main differential diagnoses for mediastinal lesions;

5) to recognize the role of PET-CT in mediastinal lymph node staging in lung neoplasms;

6) optimize MRI protocols for evaluating mediastinal lesions.

Course syllabus: The mediastinal and normal compartmental anatomy of the thymus will be reviewed, as well as the patterns of lymph node involvement in neoplasms and in inflammatory and infectious etiologies. Subsequently, the main differential diagnoses of the foot-vascular, visceral and paravertebral mediastinum will be covered, as well as the evaluation and staging of thymic neoplasms, the role of PET-CT in mediastinal lymph node staging in lung neoplasms and MRI protocols for evaluating mediastinal lesions. These topics will be demonstrated both in lectures and in clinical cases provided to encourage the participant to exercise and elaborate the main differential diagnoses in practice.
