Learning objectives: 

Understand the role of biomarkers, advanced imaging techniques, and a multidisciplinary approach in the differential diagnosis and evaluation of major neurodegenerative diseases, including dementia, parkinsonian syndromes, encephalopathies, and encephalitis, with an emphasis on the use of PET, automated volumetry, and markers such as β-amyloid and Tau.

Course syllabus: 

The course will cover recent advances in imaging diagnosis and the use of biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases. Topics covered include the role of biomarkers in the diagnosis of dementia, the indications for and applications of PET (including PET-Tau and PET-Amyloid), and the analysis of imaging patterns characteristic of Alzheimer's disease, non-Alzheimer's dementias, diseases with asymmetrical onset, and rapidly progressive dementias. Imaging assessment of parkinsonian syndromes, hydrocephalus in adults, and toxic/metabolic encephalopathies will also be discussed. The syllabus also includes the study of diseases related to β-amyloid, clinical-radiological correlation in autoimmune encephalitis, and the use of automated volumetry as a complementary tool. The course promotes an integrated approach involving clinical practice, laboratory tests, and imaging techniques in the evaluation of neurodegenerative diseases.
